The Happy Times (2013-2015)
In 2012, a CNN report, “Are Singaporeans Least Happy?,” revealed Singaporeans to be much less happier than the Iraqis or Afghanis. In any society, happiness and well-being of the people are constant concerns. Based on observations of social conditions in Singapore through different media platforms, along with various information collected (at the time when this work was created), The Happy Times is a series of 10 fictional writings speculating the near-to-distant future of Singapore in the format and imagery of newspaper cutouts. Through the “articles” that covers a spectrum of fictitious events, they provide an insight to the sociopolitical situation and the state of mind of the people, in both the future and the present.
